How Tall? How Long?

We spent the week exploring measurement leading up to the point where students discovered the need to have formal units of measurement.

We each armed ourselves with different "measuring tools" - pen lids, rubbers, pencils etc. Then we proceeded to measure how tall our partners were and reported the results for recording. After that, using the results recorded, we lined ourelves up from tallest to shortest. Unfortunately, the line did not look as we had hoped. That then led to the discussion:

  • Why did we not have the correct order from tallest to shortest?
  • How could we fix the problem?

Tristan was 8 whiteboard markers tall.

We spent an afternoon putting our creative skills to use. Here are the results as we readied ourselves to participate in the Easter Hat Parade. Thank you to all the parents who came armed with hot glue guns to hold every piece in place.

Our class winner. Congratulations Lyric.

Easter Hat Making

A friendly reminder that Year 2 are making their Easter hats on Tuesday 22nd March starting at 1.45pm.

A fraction is ........

part of a whole. This was our learning this week which included practical ways in which we split things into fractions and why we do so.

Investigating colour - Painting our choice of pictures given the primary colours only.

What 3D shapes can I make using 2D shapes?

Reviewing my Friends of Ten.

Practising drawing a 3D shape.

Achieving and receiving the Bronze Award is something worthy of a celebration.

We all enjoyed listening to Tristan share his book about green lions and yellow elephants at the zoo.

These students not only worked hard on their own goals, but enocuraged others to persist when faced with challenging tasks.

Some yummy treats from Lyric for his birthday. Thanks Lyric!

Building Understanding

This week, as we prepared for our first Primary Assembly this year, we spent a few minutes practising and singing the songs that we would be using. One of them was our National Anthem. We spent some time reading through and building an understanding of what the words mean. Words like rejoice, toil, girt, abounds, rare, advance, joyful strains and many others. Armed with some understanding, their voices rang louder with conviction about what they sang.

Congratulations to Connor for an excellent performance at the Swimming Carnival; and to Chase, Tahlia and Lilyana for their effort in Christian Discovery

Our Class award recipients for a great effort in writing andexcellent contributions to class discussions.

Continuing Investigation

We carried on investigating sound, this time trying out various ways in which we could change the volume and pitch. Using ordinary drinking straws, students made wind instruments, altering the straws in a variety of ways in order to increase or reduce the volume and pitch.

During News this week, we listened to stories of where some of our families come from. Some students were able to bring artefacts or mementos to share with us.
Jayden's grandparents came from England.

A doll, policewoman, and drum from Fiji. Thanks Rihanna.

A Maori doll from New Zealand.
