How Tall? How Long?

We spent the week exploring measurement leading up to the point where students discovered the need to have formal units of measurement.

We each armed ourselves with different "measuring tools" - pen lids, rubbers, pencils etc. Then we proceeded to measure how tall our partners were and reported the results for recording. After that, using the results recorded, we lined ourelves up from tallest to shortest. Unfortunately, the line did not look as we had hoped. That then led to the discussion:

  • Why did we not have the correct order from tallest to shortest?
  • How could we fix the problem?

Tristan was 8 whiteboard markers tall.

We spent an afternoon putting our creative skills to use. Here are the results as we readied ourselves to participate in the Easter Hat Parade. Thank you to all the parents who came armed with hot glue guns to hold every piece in place.

Our class winner. Congratulations Lyric.
